'It Means Everything to Me': Young Girls Gifted Tickets to Chicago Sky Game in WNBA's 'Her Time to Play' Initiative

Local Nonprofits 'Backpack for Hope' and 'A Safe Haven' Give Underprivileged Girls a Special Night

Girls' Memories Will Be Made at Chicago Sky vs. Indiana Fever Game on June 21st

The Chicago Sky and State Farm are teaming up to grant 250 complimentary tickets for underprivileged and deserving local girls to attend a home game this season. The tickets, part of a larger "Her Time to Play" platform, are being distributed by local non-profits Backpack for Hope and A Safe Haven.

Backpack for Hope is a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of homeless and at-risk students in the Chicago area. A Safe Haven is a shelter and support organization for women and children experiencing homelessness or domestic violence.

The gifted tickets will provide the girls with a memorable night of fun, inspiration, and empowerment. The Sky, led by 2021 WNBA MVP Candace Parker, will take on the Indiana Fever on June 21st at Wintrust Arena. The girls will also have the opportunity to meet players and staff from both teams.

"It Means Everything to Me"

For many of the girls, this will be their first time attending a professional basketball game. The excitement and anticipation are palpable.

"I'm so excited to go to the game," said one 10-year-old girl. "I've never been to a basketball game before. I can't wait to see the players and cheer for the Sky."

Another girl, 12, said, "It means everything to me. I've always wanted to go to a Sky game, but I didn't think I'd ever get the chance. I'm so grateful for this opportunity."

Creating Opportunities for Girls

The "Her Time to Play" initiative is part of the WNBA's ongoing efforts to promote gender equity and create opportunities for girls to participate in sports.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said, "We are thrilled to partner with the Chicago Sky and State Farm to bring the 'Her Time to Play' initiative to Chicago. This initiative is all about providing opportunities for girls to experience the power of sports and to see themselves represented on the court."

Chicago Sky President and CEO Adam Fox said, "We are committed to making a difference in our community. We are proud to partner with Backpack for Hope and A Safe Haven to provide these girls with a special night that they will never forget."
