Severe Weather Warnings Issued as Storm Approaches

Several thunderstorm and tornado warnings have been issued for parts of New Zealand as a complex low-pressure system brings severe weather to the country.

The MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the North Island, including Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, and Taupo.

A tornado warning has also been issued for the Waikato region, with small tornadoes possible in the area.

The MetService advises people to secure loose objects outdoors, stay away from windows, and avoid driving through flooded areas.

Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected

In addition to thunderstorms and tornadoes, the storm is also expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds.

The MetService forecasts that some areas could receive up to 100mm of rain, while wind gusts could reach up to 120km/h.
